Christian Music Redefined?
I’m posting an article on the blogroll from CCM magazine. I really have to be honest and say i don’t read CCM because as much as I love worship music and a few of the songs that Christian Artists put out, I’m not a Christian band fan. As a kid maybe i fell into this catagory at some point but right now, its really not my thing.
I’ve been disappointed with the Christian Music industry for a while now because they seem to promote the artists on the Pop-Christian billboard. If you’re into Indie and cross-over bands that may be Christian but not signed with labels such as sparrow, tooth & nail or forefront records, the only chance you’ll have of hearing or reading about them is through secular radio or any other place that you might discover Indie Music. It’s probably safe to just say, you’re neighborhood Christian bookstore won’t be selling it. Things may be starting to change for the better. The writers of CCM are in the process and taking first steps to redefine the term Christian Music. “We’re going to start mixing indie and general market Christians such as The Fray, Mary J. Blige and Sufjan Stevens in with artists with traditional Christian label affiliation.” This means confusion for some who thing Jesus Music should only be played by Dove Award Nominees, but i’m all for the redefining of Christian Music. What do you think?

don’t worry…every trip to chicago will be compared to that trip with you guys…
Mary J. Blige falls under the heading of Christian music? How do they figure that?
So far this new trend has made atleast one of my friends even more aware of the spiritual stuff around her. Made it easier for me to talk about spiritual things. As if I should need a reason…
I think music should be as it is. Granted there are some songs that are not healthy, but you as an individual must be mindful of that. But what about those songs that hold messages about life inspired by God, but yet does not overtly mention Jesus? I think We as believers forget that God has blessed everyone with knowledge of Himself and a gift to touch people.
